Student Services

The Riverside Local School District is committed to providing a free, appropriate public education to all students.  The Office of Student Services encompasses a broad pool of faculty and staff that provide a wide range of services to our students.  The Office continually strives to ensure that all students receive the support they need to be successful in their school career.  The team within the Office of Student Services includes intervention specialists, the district nurse, psychologists, health aides, educational aides, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and English language learning support personnel.  This team works under the direction of the Executive Director of Student Services to provide all necessary supports to our students.

The office of Student Services also oversees other district programming, such as preschool, kindergarten registration, child find, and mandates related to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.  In addition, the Office works with the Office of Curriculum and Instruction on the district's Response to Intervention initiative.  This initiative seeks to strengthen the core instruction in every classroom.

CHILD FIND

The Riverside Local School District is in the process of locating, evaluating, and identifying children with disabilities, from birth to age 21, residing in the District, including children with disabilities who are homeless or are wards of the state, and children with disabilities attending nonpublic schools within the boundaries of the District. These children may be entitled to a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), including special education and related aids and services, pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504).

Children eligible for FAPE under the IDEA are those with disabilities such as Autism, Multiple Disabilities, Deaf-Blindness, Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment, Speech or Language Impairment, Orthopedic Impairment, Emotional Disturbance, Traumatic Brain Injury, Specific Learning Disability, Cognitive Disability, or Other Health Impairment and who, because of such disabilities, need special education and related aids and services. Children eligible for FAPE under Section 504 include children who have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

If you know of a child who may have a disability or a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, or if you would simply like additional information, please contact Cheryl Lanning, Executive Director of Student Services, at 440-358-8208.
