Sites for elementary schools announced
The Riverside Local School District’s Board of Education voted to purchase land at 12428 Concord-Hambden Road in Concord Township to build an elementary school following the passing of the District’s bond issue in November.
The Bond Issue allows the District to construct two larger elementary schools while closing Hadden, Hale Road, Leroy and Madison Avenue elementary schools, which are a combined 346-years-old and have become increasingly expensive to repair each year.
The sites for the elementary schools will be the current Madison Avenue site in Painesville Township and the Concord-Hambden Road site in Concord Township. The estimated timeline to open the schools to students is August 2019.
“Our goal was to find a suitable location in the southeastern portion of the District,” superintendent James Kalis said. “Since last winter, we considered more than 20 properties within the District and we are very pleased to move forward with these two sites.”
The price to purchase the property, which is 10 acres, was $325,000, which will come from funds from the Bond Issue. The District will begin looking at possible designs for the two elementary schools before breaking ground.
“There is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but we are excited to move forward with these locations,” added Riverside’s Board President Jennifer Harden. “The entire District will benefit from these high quality buildings to create a stronger sense of community, improve home values, attract new families and most importantly, develop and educate the youth of our community to prepare them for a successful future.”
